Day Eleven: Cabot Trail Beginnings

Sunday marked the beginning of our adventures on the Cabot Trail, first in Baddeck and driving along the highway to Ingonish. The channel separating Baddeck and Big Bras D'or is joined by the big green bridge seen below, and since the morning was cloudy we drove the trail. Midday the clouds broke so we parked the car, geared up and began our ride from Wreck Cove to Ingonish. Though only 40k, the road traveled up Cape Smokey Mountain, which rose 400m from the ocean in 2km making it a VERY steep and rigorous climb. Without forgiving switchbacks the mountain seemed endless, but the ride down overlooking the ocean was spectacular! Another achievement for the day was a newly completed pair of socks, thanks to Melody for the wonderful lessons.
