Day Six - Long Island cycling, Sandy Cove Beach, Old growth Eastern Hemlock stand

An epic day! First we cycled 65k along the Digby Peninsula to Long Island in perfect sunshine. The locals are wonderfully hospitable and we got tips on a local beach at Sandy Cove which was spectacular, though filled with garbage. Back at Kejimkuik, we hiked to an old growth stand of Eastern Hemlock which survived the massive logging during colonization (at which time old growth trees were being used for ships etc.) The trees were over 400 years old, and breath-taking.

Day Five - Ferry to Digby, Kejimkujik National Park

Early on Monday we caught the Princess Acadia Ferry from St. John across the Bay of Fundy to Digby, N.S. The fog was terribly thick, and eerie too. Digby turned out to be smaller and more industrial than expected, so we continued on to Kejimkujik National Park. We were delighted to find it almost empty; coming in May before tourist season has peaked certainly has paid off!!

Day Four - Saint John and Hidden Valley Campground

We woke early to bike 65k along route 845, which runs between Kingston and Summerville. It was a spectacular ride! It being Sunday, St. John was a ghost town, but the old downtown was interesting to mosey about.

Day Three - Boston to Hampton, N.B.

It was a long day of driving, but the country was beautiful and the border was effortless. Here are shots of St. Andrews, and setting up camp in the dark at the Hidden Valley (very off the beaten path) campground near Hampton NB.

Frontenac Park and spring gardens

Photos from a spring hike in Frontenac Provincial Park, and a few flowers from local Kingston gardens from before we left.
